Ectopic teeth should be diagnosed early

What Is an Ectopic Tooth?

An ectopic tooth or ectopic eruption occurs when the bud of a permanent tooth is malpositioned, which leads to it erupting in the wrong place. Ectopic eruptions are often related to  dental crowding, where the tooth doesn’t have enough space to erupt in its normal path.

Treatment Options

The treatment options for ectopic teeth depend on a whole range of factors - which tooth it is, the severity, amount of crowding and timing of detection.  When ectopic teeth are diagnosed early, there is usually more options in treatment and better chance of saving the tooth. Treatment options include making space to encourage its natural eruption, to surgical exposure or extraction.
